About Demming

Demming Bass is a Southern songwriter with a Caribbean soul, whose lyrics feel like front-porch firesides, barefoot beaches, and bold-hearted beginnings.

Rooted in the storytelling traditions of the South and inspired by the rhythms of the islands, Demming crafts emotionally rich songs that resonate across country, Americana, reggae, and pop. His work draws from real-life experiences—college parties and heartbreaks, coastal escapes and fatherhood—delivering songs that feel lived-in, not imagined.

A proud dad to twin daughters and someone who’s never met a stranger, Demming brings a deep well of empathy and zest for living into every lyric. His songs are inspired by unforgettable people and moments—quiet and loud, joyful and painful—the kinds of memories that shape us and stay with us forever.

His catalog has already earned recognition, including a song selected for the Nashville Songwriters Association International’s prestigious Top 40.

Influenced by the singer-songwriters of the ’70s (James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley), ’90s Southern college rock (Hootie & the Blowfish, Edwin McCain), and today’s hitmakers (Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Darius Rucker, Old Dominion), Demming’s songs combine vivid imagery, clever hooks, and emotional truth.

With roots in the Carolinas and Georgia and a heart that drifts from Charleston to St. Croix, Demming writes songs that leave a mark and a melody you can’t forget. His polished demos and powerful catalog stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Music Row’s best, inviting listeners and industry alike to discover the stories he has to tell.

BLOG

At midnight on September 21, I’ll be sharing something close to my heart: my very first song available to the public, “Dreamers and pirates,” on all the places you find music: Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, and beyond.

This isn’t just another track. It’s the beginning of a journey. Since 2012, I’ve been writing songs that live somewhere between the front porches of the Carolinas and Georgia and the sunset kissed piers along my favorite tropical coasts — rooted in classic Southern storytelling, but carried on a breeze that drifts down to the Caribbean. Now, through The Demming Bass Collective, I’m excited to bring those stories to the world.

The first song I chose to release, "Dreamers and Pirates,” is a special one. It was one of the first songs I wrote going through a period of reflection and change, goodbyes and new opportunities, chasing both adventure and a little bit of peace. The first verse was literally written a beach on Jost Van Dyke during during an inaugural two-week jaunt through the US and British Virgin Islands.

It’s one of my personal favorites — and also my daughter Ashley’s favorite — so it feels right that it leads the way.

It’s a song about pirates and dreamers, about freedom and escape, about raising a glass at sunset and remembering what really matters. On the surface, it’s a fun island tune. It's a love letter to the sand, the sea, and the music that shaped me. But underneath, it carries a deeper story: one of longing, of gratitude, of creating magical moments with the ones you love, and of honoring the artists who inspired me most.

“This song is also me saying thank you, especially to one of the biggest musical influences in my life, Jimmy Buffett. But it's also for all the ones now carrying his torch, from Kenny Chesney to Zac Brown and to all the dreamers and pirates who’ve ever chased a sunset with a song in their heart.”

When you hear it, I hope you’ll hear that blend — country storytelling, reggae rhythms, and island soul. The Porch. The Pier. And the Caribbean breeze that ties it all together.

This is only the beginning. More songs are coming soon — each one a piece of the journey, each one an invitation to escape for three minutes and remember that there’s still magic in the world.

So, when the clock strikes midnight on September 21, pour yourself something strong, put your feet up, and take this first sail with me.

Here’s to Jimmy and the dreamers and pirates in us all. 🌅🏴‍☠️🍹
